WOD 1/25/10

In the midst of trying to maintain consciousness during the affiliate WOD on Saturday I noticed that Kellie Hornback was doing modified burpees and squat snatches. She was doing both exercises with her right arm completely immobilized in a sling. Both modifications were cumbersome and difficult but Kellie never missed a beat. It was very impressive to say the least.

What makes Kellie’s performance even more impressive is the fact that she has done every workout modified since she had her shoulder surgery.  Not once has she come into CFM and complained that she was hurt, that the workouts couldn’t be modified, or anything else for that matter. Kellie is what makes CrossFit Maximus special. She is a modern day warrior.

So the next time you are feeling like skipping a few days think of Kellie. Think about how we take for granted the fact that we can physically work our bodies when there are those that cannot. Think about the fact that being overweight and sedentary is the norm and working hard is not.

There is no excuse. -Matt

  1. Love rope climbs!!! :-D Don’t wear shorts, guys! My summer rope burns on both legs are not gone yet! :-(

  2. Kellie, you are truly an inspiration! And I have a feeling that you will come back on top of all the girls in the gym! :-)

  3. I agree Matt and I have been hurting about a possible stress fracture in my foot. After finishing the WOD Saturday and looking over at Kellie doing everything one armed it was obvious that my pain was nothing compared to the heart of a lion and determination Kellie showed me on Saturday. She is a warrior!!!

  4. It can become discouraging dealing with injuries. Since before the surgery, and now after, Kellie has kept totally motivated. This is not an easy task, especially when most people who are uninjured don’t have the stones to work themselves as hard as she does. It is easy to use injuries as an excuse, it’s not easy to persevere through nagging injuries and stay fit.
Keep it up Kellie, you are a rockstar.

  5. I was blown away by Kellie when I saw her only 4 days after her surgery doing thrusters with a kettlebell in her left arm. She never once complained, never once pittied herself, and never stopped moving!! I couldn’t believe my eyes! On several occassions since then, I’ve seen Kellie pushing herself beyond all limits. Kellie is definitely an inspiration and a fighter!! You’re amazing girl!

  6. Currently Kellie is by far our best looking Hornback. Kellie, please watch out for the bar. We are all counting on you!

  7. Thank you all so much for your continuous support. It is truly motivating to be in the gym each day with such phenomenal athletes who push themselves above and beyond the limit! I feel truly blessed to be a part of such a wonderful community of great people. CFM coaches and athletes rock!!!

  8. I did box squats, pull-ups, ring push-ups, and butterfly sit-ups yesterday….so today should be interesting!!!

  9. I think she is tougher than Bo (sorry Bo). And Bo is at a level of performance that only Sweat and perhaps Ron can match.

I am still just working on a 1/2 assed squat after a year (knees out, toes up)… but loving every minute of it.

FYI: I am probably not driving in to Lou from Lex for Oly lifting class this Sunday at 9:00 a.m. at Derby City [sorry Ling :( ]. But I will take anyone to Toast on Market for a great eggs/hash brown/bloody mary mash up after the class. :-)

  10. Yeah Freeman, thannks for all of that! I was able to get out of the bed this morning after that 50+ squats at 225lbs, and then the wod, but I was stiff. I think this is going to be a 2 day later kind of thing, so I will probably be screaming in agony tomorrow morning!

The wod was a nice change of pace with the rope climbs and plate lunges. The first 2 rounds were brutal for me because my legs were done after the affiliate challenge. I got a second wind at the beginning of round 3, and then I just coasted!
