Paleo Challengers,
Welcome to the Paleo Challenge Part II! In the “EVENTS” section of our crossfit maximus website you will find the entire Paleo Powerpoint. In this powerpoint you will find all the juicy information that you will need to be successful for the next 4 weeks. Also, you will find an “easy to use” CHART for all your points each day/week. Keep track of your points on this chart! Each Monday you will plug your FINAL numbers from the previous week on the Paleo Points Poster that is in the Arena next to the water fountains. Please dont be “that person” that doesn’t turn their points in or turns them in late!
You are already designated to separate TEAMS, now you need to think of a Team NAME! Come in to see who is on your team! Please get together (email/phone/facebook) with your team and keep eachother accountable each week! Don’t let your teammates down!
If you have any questions, suggestions and/or freak-outs, please email me at kelli@crossfitmaximus.com. I will get back to you asap!
Remember: A Healthy Lifestyle Change will not be easy…the first week will suck really bad, you will have cravings, feel depressed, moody, anxious and/or all the above because of your body detoxing all of the chemicals and junk out! Give your body a break from all the junk we eat and lets do this journey TOGETHER! I promise if you stick to it for 4 weeks you will love the results both mentally and physically!
Keep it simple, stick to the phrase!
Coach Kelli
First day of Paleo has been good! No crankiness or mood swings today, but I did have the day off from work. So we will see how tomorrow goes!
Question- Do you lose a whole point at breakfast for drinking coffee? I just can’t give it up!! Also, what about gum? I just want to make sure I am following all the rules properly. Thanks!
Drinking coffee is fine. If you put tons of creamer and sugar or splenda in it, then that’s not very paleo. Gum??? Even if it’s sugar free it probably has some sort of artificial sweetener in it. But, it’s only 5 calories, and if that can keep you doing 90% paleo, then it’s worth it in my opinion.
Thanks Freeman! I just want to make sure I am counting points properly!
Two questions to the Paleo Diet:
1. Can you use Sea Salt as a regular salt substitute? If not, what’s the best spice/herb to replace salt?
2. On the power point is says “some starch”… What starch is good to eat if you can’t eat rice, potatoes, or bread?
1. Limit your salt intake. Some sea salt would be ok, but not a lot.
2. An example of “some starch” would be Sweet potatoe post-workout with some protein. As a substitute for rice or couscous you could use Quinoa. Just google it for recipes. If you are going to have some starch, the ideal time that won’t affect your insulin level negatively would be after your workout.
Very well said Freeman! To piggy back that try as much as you can to acquire the taste for natural foods…it will take time, but you will appreciate it and that salty flavor you are going for will not taste good anymore. Also, the more sodium you cut out the less water that your body will hold on to and the less bloated looking you will be and feel. Also, when Freeman says a sweet potato, remember “little starch” so choose one of the medium/small sized sweet potatos, be careful its an actual sweet potato and not a yam, big difference! Try experimenting with spices and herbs with different foods, try herbs dry so you can taste the actual flavor before cooking with it! Try curry, ginger, lime, coconut, olive oils, and avocados for more flavor!
Thanks for answers. I will maintain the no salt (including sea salt) plan in hopes the craving stops. The herbs and olive oil I have been trying are helping. I searched the web for Paleo “starch” menus, and the majority of people only have fruits, nuts, veggies, and meat in their menu. Starch was my main energy source and when I cut it out, I felt the difference in the gym the first week. The second week I can feel my stamina building a little more since the initial shock wore off. It’s a great diet and may become my lifestyle eating habit. Thanks for the challenge. I already lost 15 pounds since the start of the challenge. Favorite drink now is herbal tea (any kind), honey, and lemon after a hard day. Praise God. Peace.
